Party Girl
Mikki, 14 year old girl
“My best friend, Jody, had a party at her house last Saturday night with about 30 people from our freshmen class at school. It was really fun because her house has this big living room and family room that are connected by the kitchen. We totally took over these rooms. The party was good and everyone was laughing and eating and listening to music.
Anyway, I’ve had a really big crush on this guy named Mark since school started. I usually say ‘hi’ to him, but we never really talk or anything. Mark was at the party and I was so excited because I was hoping that he’d really notice me there. But, I was so nervous that I just acted like an idiot.
I kept looking and smiling at him and waiting for him to come over and talk to me. But, he seemed so busy with his friends that I finally gave up. It seemed hopeless and like he wasn’t in to me at all. This other guy was at the party and I know he likes me, so when he started flirting with me, I figured “why not” since Mark didn’t even seem to know I was alive.
What I didn’t know was that as I was flirting it up majorly with this other guy in the family room, Mark was in the kitchen where he could see me flirting away. Just then, the other guy leaned over to kiss me on the cheek and I didn’t back away, but just laughed. Jody told me later that Mark had seen the kiss and that Mark told her that he liked me, but didn’t realize that I already had a boyfriend. Ugh!
Now I don’t want to look like a player, but I really want to get to know Mark better. I wish he had just come right out earlier and talked to me. I suppose I should just explain to Mark that Jody said he liked me and that the other guy is not my boyfriend. I wish this were easier.”
