Real Life Story

Explanations
Anonymous Girl, age 14, Bronx, NY

“I have a crush on a boy. It’s a big crush. His name is Christopher and he’s lived on my grandma’s block since I was 8 years old. I didn’t like him for a long time, but then I found out from my friends that he liked me, so that changed my mind.

It took me a whole month before I had the courage to tell him that I liked him too. We began hanging out, walking around the neighborhood and got to know each other better. Pretty soon we started kissing. Actually, we kissed for a long time right from the start.

Then, on my birthday, I went to his house ‘cause he wanted to tell me something. I thought he wanted to tell me that he loved me. But, when I went up to his room there was a girl there hugging him. I freaked out and left right away, and cried going down the stairs leaving his house. For a week I was really sad and wouldn’t talk to him. He kept calling me until I let him talk. He said that the girl was his ex-girlfriend (Oh, like that made me feel better). She came over because she wanted him back, but he told her “no.” Then, she hugged him and was pleading with him to get back together (that’s when I came in and saw them).

It hasn’t been easy getting over this, but we are friends again, and going slow—we hold hands and only kiss a little now.”
